ageing from existence

‘Ageing from existence’ is a project on what is thrown away too soon; on the people, practices, and ideas that have been consumed by the aura of perceived obsolescence too often placed on socially significant parts of our lives. It is about shedding light on what, even when still living, active, meaningful, useful, is ignored from existence.

Through an experimental process of curation based on the idea that any submission, unless unrelated, would be featured in the final piece, 21 artists with 24 audiovisual pieces were brought together for this project from an array of geographical and social contexts. The content received through our open call was often unexpected, challenging our own understanding of this project, of the theme, and of the shape this shared narrative outcome would take.

In the end, the piece tells its own story of survival and deterioration, of a theme that was warped by the unexpected nature of this approach, of submitted pieces that resisted the curation process, and of an outcome at the whim of the viewer.

When opened, this webpage will load at random one of the 4 pieces that have resulted from this collaboration. Each piece contains several videos, which are layered on top of each other. Through the grid, they can be viewed simultaneously in novel and fragmented combinations by clicking on the video player's sections. No click can be reversed, you decide what will remain and what will be lost. The results can be captured and shared with projektado collective.
